Bell invests in new data centres across the country to meet growing demand

Number one provider of hosting in Canada expanding its reach

Bell has launched a national initiative to increase the size of its data centre footprint in order to meet the growing needs of our enterprise and mid-market customers for co-location, hosting and managed services in Canada.

"Bell's advanced new data centres will represent the state of the art in terms of both data hosting technology and environmental sustainability," said Stéphane Boisvert, President of Bell Business Markets. By June 2011, Bell will have five state-of-the-art data centres in operation across the country in the regions of Montréal, Calgary and Toronto.

By the end of 2011, our national data centres will be SAS70 II certified, connected to a SAS70 certified MPLS network, and will class Bell as a leader that can ensure application performance both in the data centre and over the network. More importantly, these steps lay the foundation for a fully secured and highly available end-to-end solution for customers looking to enable next-generation services such as cloud, and other multi-site and offsite solutions.

Bell's new data centres are being built in three regions:

Toronto region

Bell is set to open a unique new green data centre located in the Toronto region. The state-of-the-art facility will provide Bell customers with co-location, managed hosting and next-generation services such as Infrastructure as a Service and Hosted Unified Communications - with interconnections to Bell's core voice and broadband IP networks, including a SAS70-certified MPLS network ranked best in North America.

Montréal region

Our new Montréal region data centre will provide Bell corporate and government customers with co-location, managed hosting and next-generation cloud computing services, such as software as a service and hosted unified communications. And as with Bell's entire National Data Hosting Services portfolio, the new centre will be supported by the largest and most capable team of information and communications technology professionals in the country.

Ottawa region

Bell announced construction of a new Tier 3 Certified data centre in the Ottawa region, significantly enhancing the availability of highly secure data hosting in the region with one of the most energy efficient facilities in North America.

The centre is designed to meet LEED Gold standards and to be in the top 2% of data centres for the most effective use of power in North America. The 82,000 square foot (7,600 square metre) building will use green hydro power on a grid separate from most National Capital users and deploy redundant utility components.
